Means of controlling speed of
movement of the steering or suspension.
Dealer
A company that purchases and
sells, adding value for the consumer in the process. Dealer usually
means that it works closer in the distribution channel to the consumer
than a distributor or wholesaler, and can add more value for consumers.
Diesel engine
An internal combustion engine
where air is condensed to a temperature high enough to ignite fuel
injected into the cylinder where the combustion activates a piston.
Diesel fuel
It’s lower quality fuel burned by diesel combustion engines. It has
better results for the quantity of fuel burned (higher miles to the
gallon) but sets more residue from the combustion.
Differential
The gear assembly attached
between the driving wheels and the ones that allow turning at various
speeds. This is crucial, especially when turning around a corner because
the inside wheels turn slower than the outside ones.
Disc
It’s made of metal and is
attached to the wheel so it turns simultaneously. When you hit on the
brakes, the pads are forced to rub against the disc. This is what causes
the wheel to slow down and then stop.
Disc brakes
A brake where a kidney-shaped
brake pad, lined with asbestos or other heat resistant material is
pressed against a disc attached to the wheel to stop the car.
Distributor
The moving part of the
internal-combustion engine ignition system that directs the high-voltage
current from the coil to the spark plugs in the proper firing order.
Drum brakes
It contains two brake shoes
inside one drum. When the cable is pulled (by pressing a lever or
stepping on the brake pedal), the shoes are pushed outside of the drum
creating friction that halts the bike. The clutch lever (on the left
handlebar) is pressed when the clutch needs to be disengaged. Taking the
clutch lever out engages power to the back wheel.
Dual disc
A braking system that utilizes
2 calipers and rotors.
Dynamo
Electric generator that
produces alternating current.
