For wiring in-wall speakers,
use 18-gauge at least for each speaker. If an in-wall volume control is
desired in every room, wire to the control, then to the speakers.
Never combine wire color on a
connection
Always have extra wire for all
installations; and no matter the easiness of the installation, never
change wire colors in the middle of wiring. Never connect any confusing
wire tracks; this only will take more time and risk if in the future
changes are needed.
Do not rewire under a floor mat
Do not cut corners by
installing speaker wire or any other wire across the room and under a
rug or floor mat; the constant stepping on the wires will rub the
insulation off, which in turn it will become an hazard.

Use only quality speaker wire
The quality of the wires used
to connect speakers to a receiver will affect either positively or
negatively the audio reproduced by the speakers. Use shielded wires for
connections where wires intersect; unshielded wires tend to catch noise
interference.
Keep wire connections short
Maintain speaker’s cable
lengths as short as possible; the less the signal has to travel, the
less audio quality loss will take place; if you cannot avoid a long
cable run, get a cable designed to deliver the signals clearly and
completely in longer than average distances.
