  Cable modem
A communications component that makes possible broadband connections online by means of cable television technology. Accessing speeds differ significantly, depending of several factors such as the amount of Internet users at that time of accessing, the speed of the modem or even the telephone wire connection in the house where the connection is established. Cable modems can operate with a transfer velocity of 10 megabits (Mbps) per second.

Cable TV

Cable TV was originally called Community Antenna Television (CATV). It is designed to operate as a communications system competitive to distribute broadcasted programming and some personalized content and services by using coaxial cable technology.

 Cathode Ray Tube
Also known as CRT, this technology is being replaced by plasma, LCD and similar more compact display technologies. CRTs are analog monitors that display the picture on phosphors layers which are activated by an electron gun.

CD-R
  One-time recordable Compact Disc.

CD-RW
Re-writable CDs are very convenient for some uses, but they are not recognized and played by many CD players out there.
Center channel
In a Home-Theater system, that is the speaker installed in the front-center, and which is dedicated to reproduce the sounds that are meant to come from the screen, such as voices, focused subjects and some music. Place this speaker as close to the screen as possible.
Coaxial cable
A type of top-quality cable used in Home-Theater systems’ connections; the cable has an internal conductor enclosed by a braided-like conductor which performs as an interference shield. Coaxial connections are to be used in Home-Theater systems whenever and wherever possible; the coaxial cable costs a bit more than average quality cable, but the performance quality of coaxial-connected DSS, TV, VCR, antennas and other components is greatly enhanced.
Commercial skip function
A feature found in recording components such as a VCR; it allows skipping TV commercials by fast-forwarding 30 seconds of the recorded data, this time frame is selected because most TV commercials last an average of 30 seconds. Using a remote control, the user would have to press the Commercial Skip button a few times until the commercials are finished and the desired program appears on-screen again.
Compact Disc
An optical storage format for digital data; the data can be formats like JPEG, MP3, text, audio and video, among others. CDs are clear discs with a 5-inch diameter, coated with a resin protective film over an aluminum reflective film bonded to the disc; CDs are resistant and non-magnetic and they are able to store 700 MB on a single side, which can be represented as 80 minutes of audio. The Compact Disc technology then divides and dives into more specialized tasks and topics; some CDs are meant to be DC-R or CD-RW compatible; or others are DVD-RWs or DVIs, but all formats provide when recorded properly, frequency-unaltered, noiseless, high-fidelity sound and neat image quality not easy to beat with other recording formats. The disc is durable and only minor maintenance is required to it, but never affix labels or tape to the actual CD; to label CDs, use a marker instead.
Computer administrator
An authorized computer manager that has access to manipulate data others do not. The administrator can make updates in the computer or network and control the installation of programs or access to certain restricted files, if any. An administrator can change, delete or assign new accounts for new users in the system.
Cone
It is a diaphragm usually made of paper or thin plastic; it is vital in speakers and its function is to move slightly forwards and backwards to reproduce sound.

CRT
See Cathode Ray Tube.
