 DBS
It stands for Direct Broadcast Satellite; the DBS abbreviation replaced the term DSS; DBS is used to describe a small-dish, digital satellite system and its provider.

 Decibel (dB)

A logarithmic measurement system which utilizes units to describe a sound’s level of loudness; it can also be employed to illustrate the comparative dissimilarities between two power levels. One decibel unit is one tenth of a Bel. In audio, decibels are useful when measuring scales from 0 or inaudible sounds to 120-140 dB sounds which at this level are hazardous and painful to the naked human ear. A 1 dB change over a broad frequency range is very perceptible to most people with average hearing health.

 Defragmentation
It is the process of re-arranging the data files for faster access and retrieval of them, which in turn helps the processing unit to execute tasks quicker. The files re-accommodated on the hard-drive are generally saved on the largest permanent storage space or partition, and that is frequently on a separate sector than the rest of the file; when files get fragmented, the computer system has to look for requested files and then their respective fragmented parts, which slows down the computer system.

 Digital Noise Reduction
This is a feature which reduces color noise as much as one fifth and it improves picture quality on standard recordings.

 Direct-View TV
A display which produces its image on the screen-face which it is viewed.
 Dolby Digital
The Dolby Digital format operates with 5.1 channels of which 5 are discrete, full bandwidth channels; front right and front left, center channel, and surround right and surround left, plus the .1 discrete low-frequency (LFE) channel reserved for the subwoofer; this is the official sound format of High-Definition broadcasts and it also performs in many DVDs, and DBS.
 Dolby Pro Logic II
It belongs to recent audio technology studies; it improves the original Dolby Pro Logic processing. Pro Logic II’s main upgrade grants Dolby Surround-encoded sources a 3-D spectrum so real that becomes comparable with Dolby Digital surround quality. Pro Logic II can transform Surround or stereo audio sources into 5.1-like encoded sound, with subwoofer effects included.
 Domain
A directory database-sharing computer group which branches from a network. A domain as a group, is administered and managed as an element with rules and regulations; each domain has a unique name which is referred to as the Domain name.
 Domain Name
Computer systems administrators assign domain names to the networks and all computers connected to a network which shares a common directory. As part of the Domain Name System (DNS) identity structure, domain names are composed of a series of name labels interconnected by periods.
Downstream
The signals that travel from the head-end to the subscriber’s TV.
Driver
A speaker which is not encased; it also applies to the active element of a speaker structure which makes compressions.

DTS
Digital Theater Systems; a multichannel audio encoding technology designed to work with Home-Theater systems and movie theater audio systems. DTS technology is encoded in 5.1 channels, and uses less compression than Dolby Digital technology does; for some people, DTS it is a better sounding substitute to Dolby Digital. This and other advantages have earned DTS a certain degree of admiration.
DVD–R
This format allows a one-time recording session; it is a format alike to CD-R in that it is a write-one-session medium.
