If you lower the weights too far, your lower back will start to lift off the pad. At this point you know you’re exercising the wrong way.
LEG POSITIONING
The higher your foot is on the platform the easier the quad because it’s contracting less, the less your knees are involved in the exercise.
SHOULDER POSITIONING
For this exercise, shoulders back, a natural arch in lower back, and the head and neck should stay neutral.

STANDING CALF RAISE
Knees should be facing straight ahead, and a little bent. This position will help stretch the calves when they’re low and will help your lower back when they’re high.
SHAPE CALVES
The purpose of the standing calf raise machine is to reinforce and shape your calves. Strong calves will make running, jumping and similar activities much easier.
