If you choose to cancel a
reservation on the Sleeping car 24 hours before its departure, you’ll
get a complete reimbursement. However, if you notify them less than 24
hours before, you’ll get a full-value credit for the next time you
travel.
SHOW ID
If you purchased tickets at an
Amtrak station you can generally exchange it or get a refund if you can
present proper identification. That’s typically true even if you bought
tickets with a credit card.
ABOUT AMTRACK
Generally, short-distance
trains aren’t reserved. You have to get yourself to the station and
purchase a ticket. Then you can ride the train. The only exception is
that of the fast Acela Express and the Metro Liner trains. They offer
First class/Club and Business class service and so you need to book a
seat.

Amtrak reserves the right to
charge if you cancel or change a long-distance trip ticket. Certain
bargain fares won’t let you make any changes or aren’t refundable. If
you just want to upgrade your ticket, or if Amtrak has changed their
schedule for any reason, you won’t be charged.
MONEY MATTERS
Reservation procedures vary
depending on where you're going. On some long-distance routes you can
reserve a private compartment for your family. This is an added expense,
of course, and you'll have to decide if it's worth it.
